This year is an opportunity for you to feel good and do things a bit differently. One of the best things you could do for yourself is take care of your body. Perhaps the easiest way to do that is to move, simply as it sounds. Our bodies are created to move and not being active really makes us sick – both physically and mentally.
Why is being active important?
Why is being active important?
People who have a sedentary lifestyle are predisposed to become obese; they are more likely to have heart disease, metabolic issues, diabetes, high cholesterol, and blood pressure. Moreover, you are more likely to develop some type of cancer. The idea of this is not to scare you or imply that you’re certainly going to get sick if you don’t do sports – it just puts you at a higher risk, according to studies.
But sedentary life also affects your mood. Being inactive can increase anxiety. Because an inactive lifestyle often means gaining weight, your confidence can also suffer. Sometimes, we don’t even realize how much being inactive affects our lives until we move around and feel better. Thus, I want to challenge you to move more and see how your life changes.
Here are some tips on how to get active and what to expect:
Here are some tips on how to get active and what to expect:
Take a walk
Walk to work, walk to the shops, walk to see a beautiful view. Walking is the easiest and the most natural exercise you can do. We all walk every day to a certain extent, but we want you to do better.
Taking a walk means you are breathing fresh air. It means you have a chance to separate yourself from all electronic devices and switch your brain to another mode. It can be your “me” time. The time when you clear your head and think about what you want to be, what you want to do and achieve. It allows you to reflect on your life and be in the moment. Walking is a great way to practice mindfulness. It doesn’t need to be for hours. Additional thirty minutes a day can change your life and your figure too! Walking is a great way to lose weight or stay in shape, plus it is a pleasant one too.
Go for a run
Running can give you a sense of freedom. We feel wild and free once we allow our bodies to find the right speed and effort. Running releases happy hormones. It gives you a sense of accomplishment. Not to mention that is probably the best cardio for losing weight. More reasons to run are to find a new community. Runners are everywhere, and you can also find races to travel to and discover new lands. Try our app Vitesse Running where you’ll be guided through the entire process and find a new joy in running!
Play sports you enjoy
With people you like! This might be a great way to get healthy and bond with people who matter to you simultaneously! Invite your kids, friends, colleagues and enjoy some fun time while helping your body feel good.
Avoid sitting
Yes, one way to improve your activity level is to stay put. Stop hiding behind the desk. Staying straight burns more calories and might be an excellent excuse to start dressing cute more often.
Have a stairs challenge
Have a stairs challenge
Every time there are stairs around, I challenge you – use them, do not use the elevator.
Get a dog
That is only if you are sure you’ll be able to take goof care of them and accept it as a responsibility, not as a toy to play with. But having a dog means that even if you are lazy to walk, you will have to.
Ride a bicycle to work – be a good example in your company. You won’t help only yourself, you are also saving the planet by avoiding using your car so often. Be the inspiration somebody needs right now.
Whatever you decide to include in your routine, don’t forget that it will pay off. You deserve to live a better life. You deserve to see the world from a different perspective. The only way to do that is to try. It never hurts to do at least that.
